SCC is making big strides in supporting creativity and community connections with exciting plans for its Craft Hub and a recently acquired site in Polloch.
Annie Harpur our Craft Hub Officer recently applied to the Community Regeneration Fund, this bid was successful and the funding will see further improvements to the Community Craft Hub and Men’s shed, including an additional roof layer to protect the cabin a new gazebo, perfect for outdoor woodworking and gardening sessions, and raised beds alongside the community greenhouse to support “Learning to Grow” workshops. Meanwhile, the Polloch site is set to be transformed into a second workshop space by 2027 for the Polloch community, with plans for re-roofing and re-cladding.
Annie is also working with Sarah Kemp from Urram, on a joint project that received successful funding at the end of last year, they are providing weekly craft workshops for the community. The project is about more than just learning new skills. It’s fostering connections, supporting mental health, and encouraging social interaction and stronger community ties through meaningful, hands-on activities. The workshops have been particularly successful, offering a range of courses and receiving glowing feedback from participants. The enthusiasm and creativity coming out of these sessions demonstrate just how much impact community-focused spaces can have.
The Strontian Craft Hub and Men’s Shed space is available for use by community members and if you have a skill you would like to share or feel you could use the space get in touch with Annie by email at crafthub@strontiancommunitycompany.co.uk.
We are also looking for some volunteers to help with the new roof and work we will be doing to the outside area of the Hub/Workshop please get in touch if you would like to help us finish this great community space.
