April 2020 monthly update

Coronavirus

It is impossible to look at any aspect of our lives at the moment without reference to the Coronavirus. Many of us are having to self isolate to try to minimise the risks of contracting it. We are very fortunate to be living in a small village, with plenty of wide open spaces. We are also fortunate to be in a community which is coming to-gether to enable those at highest risk avoid possible contact with the virus.

The Community Company has got together with the Community Council to set up Sunart Helping Hands, to provide help where it is most needed. Social media chan-nels will be used to share information. We might not be able to meet in person, but we can still communicate with our friends and neighbours.

Life goes on.

In the meantime, some of the work of the Community Company is still able to con-tinue. Here is an update of some of our projects.

Strontian Mens Shed have been awarded £720 from the Highland Council Ward Discretionary Fund which will help with the connection of utilities to the shed. We have other funding bids outstanding.

Green Shed at the Jetty

Following Octobers public meeting it was decided to refurbish the green shed and use it as a viewing area with changing room for swimmers, kayakers and canoeists. Two funding applications have been submitted to source the materials for this. Watch this space.

Oakwood

We are delighted to announce that Jane Mellis has been appointed as the new part-time Oakwood Coordinator to take over from Izzy Baker, who starts her new role at Glenborrodale RSPB Reserve in April. Jane has extensive retail and mer-chandising experience and we look forward to working with her to expand the range on offer in Oakwood.

Whilst on the subject of Oakwood, clearly the Corona crisis will impact on the shop opening. Whilst we will use April to get it stocked up, it will not open until the worst of the crisis is over and we have a team of volunteers able to open the shop. We will review the opening date every few weeks.

Part-Time Project Administrator for the Community Company

Currently the Board are developing plans to recruit a part time Projects Administra-tor for the company, to facilitate progress, manage the book-keeping and undertake

some project coordination as work dictates. We are not able to publish the advert this month but watch Facebook for details!
